The majority of people come from somewhere other than a traveling background. Only road experience can give you the knowledge. Becoming a travel savvier comes from missed buses, stupid behavior, cultural ignorance, and many small mistakes. One day, you will be able to move seamlessly through airports and integrate into new cultures as easily as a fish.
You make many travel mistakes at the start.
This list is a compilation of all my best tips to help you achieve your travel ninja goals.
These are the tips I have learned over my 16 years as a nomad.
You will save money by following these tips. You’ll also sleep better, get off the beaten track more, meet locals, and be a better traveler.
1.Here are the top 61 travel tips from around the globe.
It’s a must for successful galactic hitchhiking. And it is just common sense. You’ll never know when you might need one, whether at the beach or on a picnic. You never know whether or not hostels will provide towels. A small towel isn’t going to add much weight to your bag.
Choosing a lightweight and quick-drying towel is best, as regular towels can be bulky (and take a very long time) to dry. Dry Fox Travel Towels is my favorite. (Use the code “nomadic matt” for 15% off)
2. Use a small bag or backpack.
You will be forced into packing light by purchasing a small bag (I prefer something between 35/45 liters). The human tendency is to fill up space. You’ll fill the space in your bag even if you initially pack lightly, but there is plenty of room. You will regret it as you will carry more stuff and extra weight.
The Flash pack from REI is my favorite bag. Osprey and Nomatic (for Canadians) also offer high-quality bags.

Same rule for suitcases. Avoid large bags, as they can be a hassle, particularly if you travel for a long time (short-term travel is not a problem). I like Level 8 suitcases. They are sturdy, spacious, well-designed, and reasonably priced (luggage is expensive). They also have a TSA-approved lock integrated into the zipper. Click here to find out more about it and purchase one.
Packing Cubes are also essential for those traveling with a backpack or backpack. They can help you organize your luggage and keep it better organized. These cubes come in different sizes to store both large and small items. These are great for organizing your suitcase or backpack.
3. Pack light.
List your essentials and only bring them! As mentioned above, you only need a bit extra space because you have a small bag. You will require fewer clothes than you thought. Wearing the same shirt a few times a week is fine.
I like Unbound Merino because their clothing can be used daily for several weeks without smelling. The clothes are very light, and look stylish too. They are comfortable, don’t need to be washed often, and last for ages!

4. Take extra socks.
Pack extra clothes. You will lose some to wear and tear and laundry gremlins. It would help if you always took more than you would need. I’m telling you to trust me. There’s nothing better than a new pair of socks.
5. Hostels are a great way to meet people.
You’ll have a great time, they’re cheap, they organize events, and you will meet many people. Hostel bars also sell cheap beer. Hostelworld has the most extensive inventory, the best search interface, and the highest availability of accommodations. I use it to book all of my hostels.
Here is my list of the best hostels in the world. You can save up to 20% on hostels in Europe with HostelPass. This is an excellent way of saving money, and they constantly add new hostels. It’s a great deal. I’ve wanted this for years and am glad it’s finally here. Get 25% off with code NOMADICMATT.
6. Bring an extra credit and bank card
Things are stolen or hacked. Once, I had a duplicate card made and put under a lock. I couldn’t use the card for the remainder of my trip. It was great to have a backup. It’s not good to be stranded somewhere without your money. It happened to a good friend, and I had to lend them money for several weeks as they waited to receive their new card.

8. Fly direct only if you have to.
Booking flights can be cheaper if you fly into airports near your final destination and then use a budget airline, train, or bus to get there.
Find out the cost of flying directly to your desired destination. Look at the prices of nearby airports. If the difference between the two airports is more significant than $150, I check the cost to get to my leading destination from the second one.
Skyscanner is my favorite flight search engine. It’s my favorite website to find cheap flights. It searches many airlines, including budget carriers, which more significant sites often miss.
