I just returned from a trip to Venice, Italy, where I spent about a full week with my daughter and wife.
I’ve been to Venice several times. Venice is a beautiful and fascinating place to visit with its Gondolas, canals, and beautiful buildings.
In this article, I’d like to share some tips, ideas, and things to do in Venice.
This is a tourist-heavy city. Every day, cruise ships with thousands of passengers arrive. The Marco Polo Airport is also used by people arriving by car, train, or bus.
A guide gave us a two-hour tour around San Marco Square. She told us there were only 53,000 Venetians left in Venice and that for every Venetian, there were 73 tourists. Do the math.
The main streets and squares will be overcrowded. People are everywhere, and they come from all over the world.
Venice isn’t a place to relax and rest. Venice is best seen by being constantly on the move.
Vaporetto is Venice’s public water bus.
The Vaporetto is a multi-lined system with many stations located along the Grand Canal. Vaporettos tend to be overcrowded because there are so many tourists. The Vaporetto has seats, but many people choose to stand up so that they can better see the sights.

You can have fun getting lost and discovering beautiful places along the way. You can always use a map to find your way if you get lost.
2. Resting in the right place
Most places do not have benches, so you’ll be standing or walking for hours unless you visit a coffee shop or restaurant.
There are a few benches scattered around, but you will find them very rare. You can also sit on the steps leading up to a museum or church.
3. Toilets
There are few public toilets in shopping malls. I have not seen any.
You have to drink or eat in a coffee shop or restaurant if you want to use the toilet.
Here’s a tip that I learned. You can use the toilets in coffee houses if you purchase a cup or bottle of water.
4. Venice isn’t a cheap place to live.
Venice is a pricey city. There are many places to eat in Venice. You can find places to eat cheaper if you search around. This is especially true if you avoid the crowded and noisy places.
We ate a lot of Pizzas. They are delicious.
You can purchase food for your breakfast or dinner at the local supermarket if you are staying with Airbnb. There is a wide variety of food, including excellent bread and cheese.
5. Public transport is a great way to get around.
You will need to purchase tickets to board the Vaporetto or bus if you’re staying in Mestre.
Tickets are available for one day, two days, three days, and longer. You can use them for the bus from Mestre to Venice and all Vaporetto lines, including the trips to the islands of Murano and Burano. It is convenient and cheaper to buy tickets in bulk than to purchase them every time you want to travel.
As of May 2019, the Vaporetto fare in Venice is 7.50 euros, and the bus fare from Mestre to Venice is 1.50 euros. If you buy a 24-hour ticket, it costs 20 Euros for unlimited travel.
You will need to take the bus if you, for example, are staying in Mestre, which is located on the mainland where you can find cheaper hotels and Airbnbs than in Venice. The ride is only 15-20 minutes.
You will most likely travel by boat at least three to four times per day in Venice. It is cheaper to purchase a ticket for one day or three days, depending on how long you are staying.
6. Drinking Spritz
In Venice, I saw people drink a red-pink beverage with an orange slice inside. When I asked, I was informed that it’s a cocktail known as Spritz. In Venice, it is very popular, and you will see people drinking it at any time of the day.
I ordered a Spritz, and it was absolutely delicious. It was delicious.
It was very pleasant to drink the alcohol.
It is made with Prosecco, bitter liqueur, such as Aperol or Campari, and sparkling water. The drink is served with ice and a lemon or orange slice.
Spritzes are served all over Italy. There is no one recipe for Spritz. In different cities and towns, it is made with other ingredients. However, the Prosecco sparkling water is the common ingredient.
7. Murano: A visit to the city
It is worth taking a boat to Murano. About 15 minutes from Venice. The area is quiet and pleasant to visit. Many shops sell Murano glass jewelry and other handicrafts.
Murano Glass is used in all the products, and you can watch the artists shape the glass at several locations.
8. Enjoy free guided tours
You can find a few companies that offer free guided tours in the center of the town. These tours are about 1.5 hours long and available in multiple languages.
You are asked to tip the guide at the end of your tour. The amount is up to you. It was a very informative and entertaining tour.
